Iniciados: Majid Alam from Achaar

Just a short walk from our ESTUDIO in Poble Nou, our friend Majid—who, along with his brother Mani, is behind many interesting restaurants like Fish and Chips or Baby Jaleebi—has recently opened Achaar, an Indian canteen focusing on natural wine and homemade pickled dishes. Needless to say, it has become a favorito for many of our celebrations. Cal fer barri.

Recently, we paid each other a visit: first, Majid came to the office to try on some clothes and become an iniciado.

Then, we had lunch at Achaar and learned more about the project, including the different lentil preparations they make in India and Pakistan, and how they make naan bread in their special oven.

During our first team lunch there, the mango cheesecake blew us away. It was taken off the menu afterward, so you can’t imagine how felices we were during this last visit, when we heard that it was back by popular demand.

We’ve known Majid for a long time and love his projects because they hit the spot. Achaar means pickles in Hindi, so, when you go, you have to try the various spicy pickles prepared on-site that give the joint its name. They also offer a very nice selection of natural wines curated by sommelier Irene Cavalli.
