Dependent brand
Gospel Estudios is a Dependent Brand because nothing can thrive in isolation; all living things are part of a vast network that binds us together, and it’s precisely there where our strength lies. Society sometimes depicts us as independent individuals, but it just doesn’t work like that. We all rely on complex sistemas of support.
We embrace this idea of interdependence, of togetherness. We see ourselves as a collective rather than a company—a collective that is part of a community without which the project simply couldn’t happen.
As it is above, so it is below: what happens on a personal scale is mirrored on a brand scale. Brands, like any organization, are made up of people, and while it might seem accurate to view GOSPEL ESTUDIOS as an independent entity because we’re not part of any corporate group, this perspective misses a crucial point: our progress is made possible through the daily contributions of a collaborative network of people and companies.
We need the innovations of experts who spend their days in search of technical solutions. We need the wise hands of artisans who spend their life refining their craft. We need the people who source the fabrics, the delivery drivers that enable our logistics, the folks in Portugal dyeing the cotton, and—of course—we need our customers. But it doesn’t stop there. We also depend on those who provide everyday personal support, the individuals taking care of our city’s parks, bike lanes and metro stations, our trusted fruteros, the camareros at our favorite bars, our therapists and dealers. The list goes on and on: we rely on them; they rely on us; we share a reciprocal dependency.
The clothes that surround us are made up of many components, and behind every component, there are many people, in different places. Before reaching your hands, our products have passed through many others—hands of individuals we value, and who deserve to work in fair conditions.
We aspire to thrive together, building synergies and promoting relations that are human in nature, rather than just transactional.
By progressively establishing a community that is local and international at the same time, we believe we can work together towards a more accountable fashion industry.
This is why offering insight into our production habits is so important to us: being a Dependent Brand means we commit to transparency, providing clear and honest information about how our products are made, and giving visibility to the people and organizations involved.
