PROCESO: THE LABEL

On very small pieces of fabric, brand labels articulate intricate social and cultural codes. As part of our effort to question their role, we aimed to reduce ours to the bare minimum. We started with the idea of a white-on-white label, almost blank, but this approach came with its own technical challenges: the label needed to be legible but not overt, the white had to look natural, and the overall quality had to remain high without feeling rough.

Our initial attempts with suppliers in Portugal were unsuccessful, as they struggled to meet our standards: the fabric was too coarse, and we encountered issues with the precision of the typography. In the end, the solution was close to home, in Premià de Dalt, with Rodamon.

Rodamon is a label manufacturer based in El Maresme, close to Barcelona. They were originally responsible for creating the brand label for Cardona Bonache, a fashion initiative by Isra from IJ and our pattern designer Victor, which premiered at the first 080 Barcelona fashion week. Rodamon still features this label in their catalogue of special orders.

With their help, the development process was remarkably quick; with just three samples to achieve the perfect tone and weight. The final labels are made from recycled polyester, which allows for finer detail than cotton. Shoutout Anabel, who could be mistaken for Quim’s aunt, and is always nice, proactive and friendly.
