Festes de Poblenou, 1958
Around the second week of September, our barri celebrates its festivities: Les Festes de Poblenou.
Ten days of activities, concerts, children playing in the streets past midnight while their parents enjoy their last beer. For a few days, the neighbourhood belongs to everyone. People come from all around the city, but really, that’s what the festes are about: sharing.
To be honest, we had been looking for an excuse to do something of our own at the Estudio. A reason to gather our friends, our family, and, of course, the neighbours around one big table.
So we did exactly that.
In the most barri way possible, we announced a Sopar Popular (a neighbourhood supper) and invited our favourite people, as well as everyone living on our street.

We wanted the invitation to be something a little different. It ended up making even more sense: we gifted plates. If you received one, you brought it along and saved yourself a seat at the table.
With the help of our dear friends at Serigrafias Tort (shoutout to Hernán for making every crazy idea happen), we stamped the invitations and handed them out around the neighbourhood.

The table came together piece by piece. Individual tablecloths, cortesía of Bar Catalunya. The plates everyone had brought. Starters made and shared between neighbours. And, of course, a little surprise.

Because we couldn’t miss the opportunity to make everyone sew, could we?
If you were quick enough, knew your way around a needle, (and weren’t too tipsy after a few sips of wine), you could discover what was hiding inside your napkin.

At some point, while we were eating the arroces made by our good friend Santi, the neighbourhood band marched right past us. Our Sopar suddenly became a little more special, and a lot more Popular.
We ate, talked, laughed, danced, sewed, drank and enjoyed each other’s company.
No big plan. Just a table, a few good people, and a reason to bring everyone together.
